Automotive Locksmith in Kent & Sussex County, DE

Automotive work covers car key replacement, car key duplication, key fob programming, transponder keys, ignition repair, car unlock service, lost key replacement — all of it done at your address across all fifty towns we cover.

People call us when their car key breaks, when a key fob stops working, when the ignition won't turn, or when they are locked out and can't get into the vehicle. Sometimes the key is lost and there is no spare. Sometimes the key is present but the transponder chip isn't communicating with the car. Other callers want a duplicate key for a second driver, or a programmed remote to replace a worn-out fob. We are a mobile locksmith based in Georgetown and we cover every town in Kent County and Sussex County. When someone calls we first confirm the vehicle make, model, and year and whether they have any key or remote at all.

On site our work starts with an inspection of the hardware. For a lockout we check the door and trunk locks, the latch and striker, and use non-destructive tools to unlock the vehicle whenever possible. For key replacement we cut a new metal key to match the original blank and, where required, program the transponder chip or key fob to the vehicle's immobilizer system. For ignition repair we assess the switch, cylinder, and key slot, then either repair the worn cylinder or replace it with the correct part. We carry blanks, remotes, transponder programmers, and common ignition cylinders in the van so most jobs are completed at the curb.

Some jobs are straightforward when the vehicle has a standard mechanical key, an intact keyway, and a functioning immobilizer that accepts a programmed chip. Newer vehicles with dealer-only security protocols, damaged ignition cylinders, or shattered key heads make work more awkward. Broken keys deep in the ignition, bent or seized keyways, aftermarket alarms, and aftermarket wheels or steering locks add complexity. The condition of the door and trim, whether there is a metal bumper or plastic molding, and how the lock is mounted can also limit which tools we can use without causing body or glass damage.

Before we leave we verify that the new key or fob operates the doors, the trunk, and the ignition as applicable, and that the vehicle starts and the security indicator behaves normally. We test any duplicated metal key in all door locks and the ignition cylinder, and we confirm that remotes lock and unlock the vehicle and that programmed transponders disarm the immobilizer. We leave the customer holding the functioning key or keys, any programmed fob, and our contact information for future service. If a follow-up part or dealer-only procedure is required we explain the next steps and the options available.
